Weekly Announcements for BFS - September 28th, 2020

posted Sep 28, 2020, 6:14 PM by Forgotten Sea

From the Baroness

Greeting to all,

Fall is officially here. I have already started smelling folks taking advantage of their fire pits with the cooler weather. The smell of the wood smoke lingering in the air always fills my heart with warm memories of songs and stories shared among friends and family.

The season of thankfulness is upon us. While it is hard being apart please take a few moments to reflect on not only lovely memories, but also for all of the little, or not so little, things that folks have been doing to help keep us all together in heart/spirit. Take a walk and enjoy the rich colors that Mother Nature is sharing with us and realize how truly rich our lives are because of one another. If you need anything (a virtual chat, to hear another human's voice on the phone or someone to run an errand/trip to the store) please remember that we are all in this together and reach out to your SCA family, because taking care of each other is what family does.

Wednesday, 7 pm, A&S Class with Guest Teacher

Lady Rosie Dubroc of the Middle: How to Open Up a Can of Worms Without Making Too Much of a Mess: Starting an SCA Research Project.

Does research and documentation seem overwhelming? Are you interested in doing an A&S project but don't know where to start? This class will teach you how to find, evaluate, and document the sources you need to research and complete an A&S project in any category.

Join the class at 7 pm at https://meet.google.com/top-qyen-ojq.

Next Week

Join the Barony of Forgotten Sea for a class from the Honorable Fiondel Songspinner

There's no need to "fall back" on modern foods when snacks are called for! Learn about an assortment of delicious snacks from all over the SCA time period.

New Classes, New Teachers

We’re still looking for classes. One of the advantages of the virtual format is that we can hold classes taught by teachers all across the Known World. To recommend someone, request a class or volunteer to teach, contact HL Ysabel at artsandsciences@bfs-kc.org.

Serious Need for Officers, Now

Your Barony needs you. We are short three positions:

·       Deputy for the Seneschal

·       Knight’s Marshal

·       Drop-dead deputy for the Knight’s Marshal

If these positions are not filled soon, our Barony will not be in compliance with Kingdom rules. Please contact Brian at seneschal@bfs-kc.org or the Baron and Baroness at baronage@bfs-kc.org.

Archery on Sunday, 1-3 pm

Weather permitting, we’ll have archery practice at Shawnee Mission Park this Sunday.

You’ll need a permit from the Shawnee Mission Park office. The cost is $5 for a one-day permit or $15 for an annual permit for Johnson County residents or $7/$20 for non-residents. (Sorry, no crossbows allowed.) Contact Mathurin for more information at archer-marshal@bfs-kc.org.

Remember to bring your own water and wear a face mask.

Bloody Trident Inn

Event Steward Niall Macbroin says:

As you may have heard, we are planning on rekindling one of my favorite events, the Bloody Trident Inn. The tentative date is March 7, 2021. I am planning to keep it as close to the original event as possible.

What will there be to do you ask?

·       Fighting (still need a marshal)

·       Gambling

·       Games

·       Eating (potluck style)

·       Drinking

·       Music/Entertainment (we need people to dance, play or sing)

And an auction. We need donations for that to happen, an auctioneer and people to help with the auction.

The auction will be like the ones we have had in the past. Donated items will be bid on with the gambling winnings.

So please start thinking about things you could or would like to donate for the auction.

More information to come as we get closer.

Any questions please contact me, Niall Macbroin, via email at coopercoop2003@gmail.com
