Weekly Announcements for BFS - August 12th, 2019

posted Aug 11, 2019, 7:21 PM by Forgotten Sea

A message from Their Royal Majesties, Calontir -

"We have granted Their Excellencies Soren and Rowan leave to retire from their station and find suitable successors.

We would have letters of intent from interested candidates sent to Us by Sunday, August 18th. After We have reviewed the Letters, we will then ask for populace commentary regarding the selection. After reviewing the commentary, We will conduct interviews with the candidates and announce Our decision. The "Falcon-Crown at calontir.org" email address is Our preferred means of receiving Letters of Intent."

A message from Lord Aed Mac Feidlimid, Baronial Seneschal -
Good gentles of Forgotten Sea, it is an unfortunate truth that the mundane world must intrude itself upon the dream. My mundane job is changing in ways that is going to leave me with very little time or energy to adequately fulfill my duties as Seneschal of this fine Barony.

Therefore, I am looking for a deputy who is willing to take on the job after a reasonable but necessarily brief training period. If you are interested in being seneschal or would like to know more about what the job entails, please email seneschal@bfs-kc.org.

    BFS Fighter School -
From His Excellency, Logan goði: The unofficial BFS fighter school will be continuing all summer. You can find more information about it here: https://sites.google.com/view/bfsfighterschool
    Deputy Officers -
We are looking for deputy officers for the Social Media Officer and Archer Marshal. If you have    questions or would like to apply, please email the relevant office, baronage@bfs-kc..org and seneschal@bfs-kc.org.

    Calendar Updates -
More classes and upcoming Forgotten Sea hosted events have been added to the Baronial Calendar.

From Her Excellency, Countess Ylva Jonsdottir, Baronial Arts & Sciences Minister -
Next scheduled class is  Beginning Jewelry Making on August 21 at 6:30 PM.  See the calendar on the BFS website for more information about this and other A&S activities.
  • Upcoming opportunities to paint for the Baronial Roll of Arms Project:  Aug 21, Sep 18, Oct 16 & 30 at Fighter Practice.
  • If you are interested in learning Wood carving, Repoussé (weekend-long)  or  Indigo dyeing, please contact Countess Ylva.  If there is enough interest, we will have these classes soon.
  • Now is the time to start your largesse project to be presented at  Crown Tournament in October!
Let Countess Ylva know if you have a class that you would like to teach, something you would like to learn, or questions about any of this Arts & Sciences stuff. (Ylva@lewis-neff.net)
Baronial Classes & Arts + Sciences Announcements:
  • Beginning Jewelry Making: On August 21st, Learn the basics of jewelry making to produce your own two-layer pendant or award medallion. This class focuses on sawing and riveting, and will briefly explore ways to texture or color metals as well.
    • We will be outdoors at the BFS fighter practice site (5701 Merriam Drive), near the picnic table.  Bring a low stool if you have one. Designs for leather mallet and calon swan medallions will be on hand. If you would like to make something personal, bring a printout of a simple design that will fit in a 2” circle. Contact Countess Ylva (Ylva@lewis-neff.net) to reserve your spot.  If there is enough interest, a second session will be added on August 28th.
  • Possible future classes - Repoussé (weekend-long), Wood carving, Indigo dyeing. If you have an interest in any of these future classes, please contact Countess Ylva (Ylva@lewis-neff.net).  You don't have to commit to going to the class (yet), but we need to gauge the interest before the instructors invest their time in putting them together.  Also, let Ylva know if you have a class that you would like to teach, something you would like to learn, or questions about any of this.  :)
  • BFS Roll of Arms Project - This on-going project involves painting the devices of the BFS populace onto individual triangle-shaped pennants.  If you like to draw, paint, or study heraldry, look into this activity which takes place on the first Thursday of every month.  See the Calendar on the BFS website for additional info. http://www.bfs-kc.org/what-s-new/calendar  - click on the calendar entry.

  • Largesse - definition:  generosity in bestowing money or gifts upon others.   As a Barony, we traditionally present the Crown of Calontir with largesse when we sponsor an event, such as the Crown Tournament  in early October.  This allows The Crown to bestow these gifts on the populace and foreign visitors.   Items may include things that are hand-made, or purchased, but should be for use in SCA settings.  If you have something to offer, or any questions, please contact Countess Ylva (Ylva@lewis-neff.net).  Now is the time to start your largesse project!
