Weekly Announcements for BFS - August 10th, 2020

posted Aug 11, 2020, 2:40 PM by Forgotten Sea

From the Baroness

Greetings Barony,

If you haven’t seen the video that was released by the SCA Board of Directors this past weekend we would encourage you to take a few moments and follow this link https://youtu.be/bdmPfECeur8 to hear for yourselves the information that was shared in that video.

We know that this pandemic has caused a lot of change to our game in real time, but this last weekend's announcement reinforces the impact that this time of social distancing may affect not only our Barony and Kingdom but the Society as a whole. We are sure that you have some concerns about what the SCA will look like after the first of the year when things hopefully open back up and we are able to gather together again. I know that His Excellency and I have discussed the impact of our ever changing situation and have concerns as well.

With this in mind we are asking you to keep up your memberships if at all possible, and we want to put out a reminder that as the year starts to draw to a close and individuals/businesses are looking for tax-deductible donations, to keep the SCA in mind. We fully intend to keep The Dream alive and our SCA Family close to our hearts. Please consider yourselves all virtually hugged until the time we can gather again and share hugs, stories, bad jokes and puns, and I can feed you all way too many snacks!

In Service,

~Baroness Alianora

Curia this Wednesday at 6:30 pm

Please join us for Curia on Wednesday evening at 6:30 pm. Everyone is welcome and we would love to not only see you but to hear any ideas that you might have for helping to keep us closer during our social distancing period.

Master Mathurin has been scheduling time on Sunday evenings at Shawnee Mission Park for archery practice (see below for more info), and we would love to help others who would like to sponsor small outside gatherings to get your information out there for all to see.

Calontir’s Top 13 Songs

Miss singing with your friends. Wish you knew the words to more of Calontir’s songs?

On August 26 Mistress Dorcas will lead the singing of Calontir’s favorite songs during our Wednesday get-together. If you aren’t familiar with these songs, you can find the words for them in Katriana’s Songbook (http://www.calonsong.org/songbook.html). Mistress Katriana op den Dijk has collected the words to more than 150 Calontir songs and has them listed in alphabetical order.

The songs we’ll sing in two weeks are:

Steel Shod Dance

Raven Banner

Knight's Leap

Strike the Drum

Swan Road

At the Battle of Maldon

Non Nobis

Compact Between Horse and Man

Fruit of the Yew

Song of the Shield Wall

There's no way we will get through all of these, but we will make a start!

If you have never heard these songs, you can listen to most of them at the CalonSound Project: http://gladiusinfractus.com/wp/.

Virtual Fighter Practice This Wednesday at 7 pm

Archery Practice Sunday at 6 pm

Join us Sunday at Shawnee Mission Park’s archery range. You’ll need to bring your own water, wear a mask and have a valid permit.

Get your archery permit at most Walmarts or at the Shawnee Mission Park office during office hours. You can get a one-day permit for $5 ($7 non-Johnson County resident) or an annual permit for $15 for Johnson County residents or $20 for non-residents. Unfortunately, crossbows are not allowed at the archery range.

Please let Mathurin know if you plan to attend. Contact him on Facebook (Rex Deaver) or at archer-marshal@bfs-kc.org.
