BFS News for October 9, 2017

posted Oct 9, 2017, 6:15 AM by Forgotten Sea   [ updated Oct 9, 2017, 6:23 AM ]

Announcements:

  • Quarterly Reports: Officers and Marshals, quarterly reports are due this week, on the 15th.
  • Curia is this week. Notes from last month's Curia are available here.
  • Baronial Fighter Practice is indoors. C&T fighters, please wear non-marking shoes.
  • Baronial Championships: The Baronial Archery Championship will be on Sunday, October 15th, 1pm, at the home of Master Leif in Kearney, Missouri. The championship is open to anyone who has not won it before (others may participate, but not for score). Crossbows will be allowed 5 bolts per flight, modern bows 6 arrows, and period bows 7 arrows. To classify as a period bow, both bows and arrows must meet the usual criteria (e.g. no brass nocking point, no plastic nocks, no cut-out riser shelf, etc). Thrown weapons will be included, weather permitting.
The Armored Combat and Cut & Thrust Championships will be on October 18th, at practice (which is His Excellency's birthday).
  • Clarion: "The October issue of The Clarion is dedicated to SCA newcomers in the Barony of Forgotten Sea. Here are some ways you can really help:
    1. Advice - 1-5 Sentences of tried and true advice telling a new person how to thrive in BFS and Calontir and beyond.
    2. Local resources - Where do you go for fabric, equipment, DIY armor, information, etc.?
    3. Kingdom / online resources - What websites would you send a new person to for help with garb, persona development, camping, music etc.?
This kind of Clarion submission would not need a Creative Works Form.

As always, The Clarion is always looking for articles. A longer piece of newcomer advice on how to make basic garb, choosing a name, easy period recipes, your SCA journey, - anything really.
The deadline for submissions is October 10, 2017.
This kind of Clarion submission would need a Creative Works Release form.
A photograph needs a Photographer's Release form. Any recognizable face in a photo needs a Model Release form. All forms are available at http://chronicler.calontir.org/under
    FORMS AND DOCUMENTATION.
I will help to make the paperwork as easy as possible.

    Thank you,

  • Award Recommendations: Their Majesties will be visiting our Barony once more for Kris Kinder. If there is someone you have seen doing something worthy of recognition, submit an award recommendation! Don't assume that someone already has an award; check the OP. You need not be a member of an order to recommend somebody for it.
