BFS News for July 15, 2019

posted Jul 16, 2019, 9:09 AM by Forgotten Sea

Baron Logan: The unofficial BFS fighter school will be continuing all summer. You can find more information about it here: https://sites.google.com/view/bfsfighterschool

Warranted Marshals: In preparation for signing a new Warranted Marshal's list, we need to make sure that we all have the correct forms on file with the correct ID requirements. Please go here and fill out the online Agreement to Serve at your earliest convenience:  https://marshalagreement.paperform.co Even if you have recently sent in your agreement to serve via another means OR you had an old on already on file, we need you to resubmit using the new online form.

Deputy Officers: We are looking for deputy officers for the Social Media Officer and Archer Marshal. If you have questions or would like to apply, please email the relevant office, baronage@bfs-kc.org and seneschal@bfs-kc.org.

Kingdom A&S: On July 20, Kingdom Arts and Sciences event will be held in Oak Heart (Springfield, MO). Although the deadline to enter the Championship competition or the non-competitive Tri-levels has passed, there is always a need for judges (https://calontir.org/calontir-org-user-sign-up/) and everyone is welcome to observe the entries and talk with the artisans. This is a great chance to learn about how Calontir A&S competitions and displays are run.

Class announcements:
Beginning Metalwork: On July 17th, a Beginning Metalwork Class will be taught by Lord Finan at the BFS fighter practice. Materials and tools will be provided, please contact Countess Ylva (Ylva@lewis-neff.net) to reserve your spot.

Rope Sandals: On July 24th, Kagetora will show you how to make your own waraji (Japanese rope sandals) at the BFS Fighter practice. Basic materials will be provided but may be limited, so contact Countess Ylva to reserve a spot!

Beginning Jewelry Making: On Aug 21st, Learn the basics of jewelry making to produce your own two-layer pendant or award medallion. This class focuses on sawing and riveting, and will briefly explore ways to texture or color metals as well.

We will be outdoors at the BFS fighter practice site (5701 Merriam Drive), near the picnic table.  Bring a low stool if you have one. Designs for leather mallet and calon swan medallions will be on hand. If you would like to make something personal, bring a printout of a simple design that will fit in a 2” circle. Contact Countess Ylva (Ylva@lewis-neff.net) to reserve your spot.  If there is enough interest, a second session will be added on August 28.

Do you have an interest in learning  Repoussé (method of decorating metals in which parts of the design are raised in relief from the back or the inside of the article by means of hammers and punches) from Master Grimwulf?  This would be a weekend-long class to be held somewhere in Forgotten Sea or nearby.  Contact Countess Ylva (Ylva@lewis-neff.net) if you want to be on the contact list as we find out if there are enough participants to do this, and then decide exactly when and where it will happen.
