BFS News for Feb 11, 2019

posted Feb 11, 2019, 8:54 AM by Forgotten Sea

"Queen's Prize (Arts and Sciences) Tournament (QPT) was held February 9 in nearby Lost Moor ( St. Joseph, MO), and was a rousing success, as usual. There were many Forgotten Sea entrants in the tourney, as well as judges and interested onlookers. A couple of the top honors were awarded to BFS citizens: Andromir Vukovic as the Queen's Choice, and Finán mac Crimthain as the Judges' Choice.  Andromir presented a stunning metal work and glass Roman oil lamp, and Finnan's entry was a detailed comparison of many ways to refine hand-ground lapis lazuli into ultramarine pigment. Congratulation to both of them, as well as to all of the entrants.

For more information on Queen's Prize, see the Calontir A&S website at http://artsci.calontir.org/ .  This "competition" is open to all skill levels, but competitors can not have an award higher that AoA -level.  Every entrant has the change to spend an hour with 3 people who are there to provide face-to-face feedback to help the entrant develop and better present their skills. The number scores really don't matter here as the winners are chosen by vote, or individual decision, and all entrants get a reward. In fact, an entrant can choose to not receive a score at all, but to simply discuss their project and receive suggestions for improvement.

The talent and perseverance shown at every Queen's Prize is inspiring and highly recommended for everyone in the SCA to experience, even if only as an observer. ---- Ylva, BFS A&S Minister"
